The Transcultural Family Services is one of the Family Services Program of Centacare. We are based at the Factory
Community Centre ever since we started this project.

Our service offers case work to help families and children of Chinese and Vietnamese backgrounds with a wide range of practical issues, such as housing, Centrelink, schooling, health and education. We advocate for clients who speak little English and have difficulties to assert their rights in accessing services.

We also offer supportive counselling to parents and children who are experiencing relationship problem, domestic
violence, child abuse, children being bullying in school, and children with emotional and behaviour problems.

In tailoring the family and community needs, we run educative, social and support groups for the Vietnamese and the Chinese communities.

In a partnership project with The Factory Community Centre and South Sydney Community Transport, we provide bus trips to our group on monthly basis. Our groups have certainly enjoyed these outings and had many memorable trips.

A regular activity is The Multicultural Cooking Group, which runs at the Neighbourhood Centre in Waterloo and is a great opportunity to provide social and interactive activities for the local residents.

Highlights activities include festival functions which we celebrate at the Factory Community Centre; the participation is not only from the Chinese and Vietnamese communities but rather with the people from many multicultural backgrounds.
